Yoyos date as far as back 500 B.C and at that time it could only played up and down to the string. But the Filipinos played it differently on the way how they tied the yoyo. In 1920, Pedro flores introduced to the world the different method of stringing the yoyo, which it is possible to do other tricks.

He was born in Vintar, Ilocos Norte, Philippines and go to the United States in 1915. Between 1919 and 1920 he attended the High School of Commerce in San Francisco 1919-1920 and subsequently studied law at University of California, Berkeley and the Hastings College of Law in San Francisco. Flores dropped out of school and moved to Santa Barbara, California and he worked as a bellboy,

Between 1928 and 1932, Flores started and ran the Yo-yo Manufacturing Company in Santa Barbara before selling the company and trademark to Duncan who continued to market and sell Flores yo-yos alongside the Duncan line.

Furthermore, He registered this innovation under the trademark Flores YoYo. This is the reason why "yoyo" was considered a tagalog word and the Philippines has the distinction of officially naming the toy and perfecting of using it.

Many inventors tried to improve the yoyo but none came out and still better the original from the Philippines.
